Your Perth cultural calendar isn’t complete without experiencing the signifcant Revelation Film Festival. Now in its eleventh year the festival showcases a range of distinct and progressive short, feature, documentary, archival and animated works that are at the forefront of contemporary underground filmmaking.

Runs July 3 - 13.

Island of Lost Souls - Opening Night Feature

The festival has become a significant film festival on the Australian calendar. Each year Revelation audiences grows as locals and visitors to Perth support the festivals progressive and eclectic program. A playful approach to the festival’s lineup is their ethos with pop, youth culture to individual and acclaimed films the emphasised.

 

Freakshow

The event was founded by Richard Sowada who has gained a reputation as one of Australia’s most respected independent film curators and screen event organisers. In 2008 Jack Sargeant is guest Program Director. Sargeant is known for crossing all forms and genres when programming a festival, which leads to a dynamic and experimental experience.

Alice in Wonderlust - Cocktails & Art Tonight

To celebrate the launch of the new show Wonderlust, Friends of the Art Gallery of Western Australia and aRTERY are holding a Alice in Wonderlust cocktail party tonight!

WONDERLUST, the exhibition, features the best works from our our State Art Collection. Works include Indigenous, Australian and International artist, craft and design acquired since the Gallery’s inception in 1895.

An important night to celebrate our art collection and raised funds for new acquisitions.

Surreal artist Creepy is current exhibiting at Keith & Lottie in Northbridge.

Describing his work as ‘loosely based on his own human experience, depicted through fictional characters in a world very similar to our own’. His characters are twisted, exaggerated  with beasts coated in hair, tattoos and symbols.
Celebrate his works in his first exhibition since 2006 at Keith & Lottie until July 11.

The opening night film at the Sydney Film Festival this year was Happy-Go-Lucky which is a comedy about an optimistic London schoolteacher. Written by Mike Leigh and stars Sally Hawkins, who won Best Actress at the Berlin Film Festival.

Animation fans shouldn’t miss Reelanime 2008. Madman Cinema showcases the most up-to-date Anime feature films. Screening four of the freshest anime feature films this side of Tokyo.

The movie program includes  the CGI brilliance of Appleseed: Ex Machina and Vexille; to the highly anticipated  Batman: Gotham Knight plus the skillful story of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Opening night July 3 and runs till July 16, at Luna Leederville.

Congratulations to Noongan artist Lindsay Harris who has been selected as a finalist in the 25th Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Awards.

His work ‘Tracks to Kockerbin Rock’ impressed the judges and this prestigious award will be announced at the official opening of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory in Darwin on August 15.

RTRFM’S Fremantle Winter Music Festival - Goes Spooky

 

Hurry tickets are selling fast for this years Friday the 13th RTRFM’S Fremantle Winter Music Festival.

Set in two prominent locations the Fly By Night Musician’s Club and Norfolk Basement.

So dress spooky and enjoy the line up. At the Main Room at the Fly By Night see sets by Sugar Army, Schvendes, Eleventh He Reaches London, Day of the Dead and The Bloods. In the transit Lounge at the Fly the chilling solo sounds of Brendon Humphries from the Kill Devil Hills, Craig Hallsworth from Tangled Star and the Slow Beings, Seven Weapons and Eduardo Cossio will play.

Down the road at the Norfolk Basement dance sounds will include Micah, Sardi, Rok Riley and Dan the Man from Full Frequency, Ben Taaffe from Underground Solution and Graceberg Slim from Soulsides.

Beyond The Darkness - The Closest Floyd Experience

Environment Day - Support It With Debate


June 5 is Environment Day. To keep the green message a central topic of debate the Conservation Council of Western Australia is having just that - a debate.

‘Is Green The New Black?’ will have top WA comedians and environmentalists mixing the real issues with a tongue and cheek humour. Steve McKiernan says, “I’m calling on Perth’s eco-fashionistas to come along and show that you can be green and look good at the same time.”  Nicole Hodgson, for the negative, retorts - “All you genuine greenies, pull on your op shop gear, cycle down on your bikes and show them that being green has nothing to do with fashion.” Fellow team member and comedian Werzel adds, “Black is mysterious and elegant.  Green has all the mystery and elegance of koalas gettin’ jiggy.”
