Creating A Vision For Perth Arts & Culture Industries - Have Your Say

Perth Waterfront Development Plans

Recently I attended ‘Create a Vision for Arts & Culture for Perth’ workshop run by the Committee for Perth. The day was exhausting but inspiring with nearly 200 artists and arts related industry members discussed ideas to create a greater vibrancy in our art and culture industries.

Ten major themes were developed on the day and I thought mystylelocal readers would like to view and comment.

The 10 major themes include:

Environment Day - Support It With Debate

June 5 is Environment Day. To keep the green message a central topic of debate the Conservation Council of Western Australia is having just that - a debate.

‘Is Green The New Black?’ will have top WA comedians and environmentalists mixing the real issues with a tongue and cheek humour. Steve McKiernan says, “I’m calling on Perth’s eco-fashionistas to come along and show that you can be green and look good at the same time.”  Nicole Hodgson, for the negative, retorts - “All you genuine greenies, pull on your op shop gear, cycle down on your bikes and show them that being green has nothing to do with fashion.” Fellow team member and comedian Werzel adds, “Black is mysterious and elegant.  Green has all the mystery and elegance of koalas gettin’ jiggy.”

Activate Perth’s Creative Industries

form.jpg

As opinion readers of mystylelocal.net, help activate a new wave of arts and cultural based activities in Perth by sending a clear message to our Premier that we want him to manage this portfolio after the next election. ‘Creativity defines us’. FORM (the organisation behind Creative Capital), believes that if we want to strengthen WA’s arts and cultural future, then it should go to the top of the government’s agenda. FORM is interested in what you think – and has started an online survey where you can have your say. It’s time to step up and take 5 minutes to support this idea so creativity gets the profile it deserves. Click here to leave a message and to find out more.

To continue your cultural ambassador’s role email your friends and colleagues urging them to act.

I appreciate your time.

Perth’s Waterfront - have your opinion

Have your say in the planning process to transform Perth’s uninspiring and under utilized foreshore.

The foreshore project will be developed in two stages with Stage 1 focusing on the William Street corridor from Mounts Bay Road to the river, the Esplanade and the waterfront between William Street and Barrack Square.

The second development of Stage 2 will offer a combination of hotels, apartments, offices, restaurants and cafes which are linked by footpaths and bike lanes along Mounts Bay.

On February 13 the Premier announced a $9million commitment to commence initial land development works this year on the Northbridge Link project, with completion expected in 2012.

The concept designs were developed by national architecture firm Ashton Raggatt McDougall.  This follows a $2million detailed feasibility study done last year. I’m glad to know the firm responsible for the design of the Perth Convention Centre wasn’t involved.

As opinion leaders mystylelocal.net encourages you to visit http://www.perthwaterfront.com.au, view the design and comment before March 25. Please consider commenting on the swan island idea…
